Telluride Colorado
Hollywood and television always shows us images of small mountain towns where nothing ever seems to happen and where people go about their lives content to live in the natural splendor that surrounds them. For the most part people think that all those movies and programs are nothing more than fiction. That is until they come upon the town of Tellurhide, Colorado. It was once called the Best Kept Secret of Colorado but is quickly becoming a town that offers people beautiful mountain scenery combined with high quality ski slopes. Tellurhide, Colorado is a small town in the south of the state. It is situated inside a box canyon and is probably one of the hardest towns to get to. There are three ways in, but only two ways to get out. Imogen Pass and Black Bear Pass allow you access to the town if you want to brave the treacherous mountain passes that link the town to the outside world. Bear in mind that these passes require a vehicle that is capable of making often steep ascents and having to deal with tough turns. The other option is to fly to the one of the highest airports in the country. Only problem with this is the fact that flights are few and far between because of the often adverse weather and small runway that is available. Barring that, you could always take the gondola from Mountain Village if you want.
Even though Tellurhide, Colorado is hard to get to; once you get there you may never want to leave again. Although boxed in with mountains on all sides there are few places on Earth that can be as beautiful all during the year. In the winter months the mountains are covered in a pristine layer of snow that attracts skiers from all over the country. During the spring and summer the surrounding area is green with life offering unmatched hiking trails and other outdoor diversions. In the autumn the area turns into a kaleidoscope of color that only seems to exist in greeting cards. And, if that is not enough for you, the town has other diversions as well.
The town of Tellurhide, Colorado also hosts annual festivals that draw people to it every year. Ever since the town lost its reputation for mining, other diversions have had to be found. The annual film festival and annual music festival draws hundreds of people to the town every year including celebrities.
Coming to Tellurhide, Colorado could be dangerous. Once you arrive and see the beautiful splendor that surrounds you and all the activities that are available you may find that you never want to leave again. Since the town is a little hard to get to you can even expect a measure of privacy despite the tourists that come to the town annually to ski or just to enjoy the beauty of the area. Getting here may be hard, but it is well worth the effort. |
