Telluride Film Festival
The Telluride Film Festival is a unique event that takes place on Labor Day weekend every year since 1974. Unlike many other festivals, there are no awards given, though the honor of having a film selected for the festival is an award in itself. A few special honors are given each year: The Telluride Film Festival Silver Medallion, and the Telluride Film Festival Guest Director. In the unfortunate event that a friend of the Festival should pass away, the festival is dedicated in their honor.
One of the unique features of the Telluride Film Festival is the fact that the program is not announced in advance. Yet each year, devoted festivalgoers attend the show, confident that the Festival's directors will provide the unique experience that the Festival is renowned for. Furthermore, the Telluride film Festival is more than just a series of movies; it is also an opportunity to commemorate the efforts and accomplishments of the film industry's luminaries. The festival gives film enthusiasts the opportunity to discover new talent, connect with the medium's visionaries, and engage with fellow attendees.
The focus of the festival is on independent film of all types, genres, themes, and styles. From the surrealism of Twin Peaks to the unconventional romanticism of The Crying Game, some of the world's most renowned films were first shown in Telluride. This is a testament to the innovative and pioneering passion of the festival's exhibitors. With an eclectic blend of diamonds in the rough and world-renowned hits, the festival is known for its discerning quality and dedication to excellence.
Festivalgoers get the opportunity to screen films before anybody else -- before the critics, your coworkers, your friends (unless you're kind enough to bring them with you), and the general public. You can watch a film with an open mind, untainted by the loudly-expressed opinions of those who watched it before you. You get the thrill and the pleasure of discovering new works of art, new talents and new ventures by familiar artists of the craft. It is a unique and unparalleled experience that is sure to strengthen your love for film.
The festival even has its very own superhero, in the form of the bike riding Cookie Boy. Legend holds that he only manifests if attendees truly believe in and treasure his spirit. This cape-clad superhero embodies the gregarious and fun nature of the festival.
One thing is for certain; at the Telluride Film Festival you never know what to expect. The only thing you can be certain of is that you will be privy to exclusive viewings of masterfully created works of art on the screen, a festive and exuberant atmosphere, and new insight into the world of filmmaking. Whether you want to discover new frontiers in the film industry, or simply hope to catch sight of some of the industry's most creative minds, the Telluride Film Festival is an event you won't want to miss. |
